Mission Statement

 

The Miami International Arbitration Society (MIAS) was founded in order to promote the use of international arbitration and mediation and the selection of Miami as the situs for international arbitration proceedings related to the resolution of transborder commercial and investment disputes. The Society works to maintain and enhance the extensive infrastructure developed to encourage international arbitration in Miami by supporting appropriate legislation, relevant academic programs at area universities, local international arbitration conferences, featuring distinguished practicioners as guest speakers, and providing training and legal updates to its members on the latest developments in international arbitration. The Society also provides a forum where practitioners and others interested in international arbitration can network and exchange ideas and information about this growing practice area.

 
International Commercial Arbitration in Latin America: The ICC Perspective PDF Print E-mail
Objective
As approaches to key issues may differ from one region to another, the success of an arbitration greatly depends on a good understanding of local legal cultures and attitudes. This conference is a key forum for understanding international commercial arbitration in Latin America and aims to shed light on the latest developments in the region. ICC will gather some of the world’s leading practitioners and scholars as speakers for this important event. Participants will have the rare opportunity to learn from these leading experts firsthand through presentations and a practical session.

The ICC International Court of Arbitration is reputed for being the world's leading institution for resolving international commercial and businessdisputes and has had a distinguished and long-standing history of international dispute resolution for 85 years. Over the past five years it has received 3,193 requests for arbitration from all over the world. Of the 8,499 parties involved it the cases filed with the ICC Court, almost 12% come from Latin and the Caribbean.
Who should attend?
Practicing lawyers, corporate counsel, arbitrators, mediators, academics, as well as any professionnal doing business in Latin America and the Caribbean, wishing increase their understanding of international commercial arbitration in the region.
